The Hydrocephalus Association was founded in 1983, incorporated as a nonprofit 501(c)(3) in 1986, is governed by a Board of Directors and employs, part-time, an Executive Director, Assistant Director, and an Administrative Assistant. Medical Professionals serve in an advisory capacity.

The Hydrocephalus Association provides support, education, resources and advocacy for individuals, families and professionals.

The International Federation for Hydrocephalus and Spina Bifida ("if") is the world-wide umbrella organization for these two disabilities and has a contact net on every continent. Its members are national organizations for Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus in more than 30 countries. These National Organizations support people with Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus in their daily lives.

The Hydrocephalus Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing support, educational resources and networking opportunities to patients and families affected by hydrocephalus. The Foundation also promotes related research and facilitates the training of healthcare professionals to improve patient outcome.
